Intradiscal electrothermal annuloplasty (IDET)
Persistent backache resistant to therapy, caused by degeneration of the disc(s) and/or protrusion of the disc(s) (discogenic pain syndrome) is treated by inserting a heating wire into the fibrous ring of the intervertebral disc (annulus fibrosus) and then heated. This can result in a retraction of the annulus fibrosus and an ablation of the nociceptors.
