Conventional treatments

In the case of acute backpain just caused by muscular tension, applying heat to the localised areas and temporarily taking an analgesic anti-inflammatory from the group of so-called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs – NSARs – usually relieves it. A muscle relaxant (myorelaxant) may also be prescribed.
For more persistent symptoms, massages can relieve as well as solve the problem. Chirotherapy (manual therapy) can be used to ease blockages of the vertebral joints.

If it is the intervertebral discs which are causing the chronic symptoms to the spine – such as slipped discs, protrusions, attrition or changes to the bone such as osteoporosis or arthritis of the vertebral joints – physiotherapy is essential. During the acute phase, stretching and relaxation exercises have a relieving effect on the painful areas. During the stabilising phase, exercises which strengthen the muscles are used. This can also be used intensively as so-called apparatus-aided training therapy. Osteopathic treatment can also result in significant easing of the symptoms.
Balneotherapy in the form of kinotherapeutic baths, electrotherapy and ultra-sound applications can also be used to support this.
