Thermocoagulation of the vertebral joints
So-called radio-frequency therapy
Used for persistent backpain, caused by irritated and worn vertebral joints (so-called facet syndrome)
In the case of degenerative changes to the small vertebral joints (facet joints), localised pressure and pain upon movement of the relevant section of the spine are frequent: the pain radiates
in to the upper arms (cervical vertebrae) or the thighs (pseudoradicular). Thermocoagulation / radiofrequency therapy involves coagulating the pain-transmitting nerve, thereby killing the pain.
